Indicative timetable:

Activity Date
Launch of call for proposals 6/11/2019
Submission deadline 25/11/2019
Funding decisions Early December 2019

Context: UEL is in receipt of a new QR GCRF allocation of £136,241 for AY 2019-20 aimed to support ODA-compliant research that directly addresses specific development challenges faced by a country on the DAC list of eligible countries and territories.

Eligibility of applicants: The call for proposals is open to all researchers (including developing researchers) at UEL. Please refer to the guidance notes below before completing the application form.

Submission process: Applicants should complete and return the attached application form (Annex 1) to reds@uel.ac.uk to be considered for funding. The submission deadline is 5pm, Monday 25th November 2019. Please confirm the support of your Dean of School with your application.

Grant size: £20k to £25k. Co-authored applications for collaborative research are encouraged.

Review process: Applications will be reviewed by the GCRF steering committee* chaired by PVC Professor Verity Brown. The principal criteria will be the benefit that will accrue to the target country, which will be judged in part by the potential of the research to lead to further funded research (if pilot work) or generate significant impact in the target country (if follow-on work). Applicants may be invited to present their proposals in person to the committee as part of the selection process and to refine bids.

Please see here for further details about the scheme. If you still have queries, please contact Carmen Ungureanu: C.Ungureanu@uel.ac.uk.

*GCRF Steering Committee, Chair: PVC Professor Verity J Brown. Members: School Directors of Impact and Innovation, Melanie Bullock, Emma Libonati, Carmen Ungureanu, Matthew Whyte, Co-opted members as required.
