The European Parliament has approved the EU’s budget for 2015 and the top-up to the 2014 budget at a plenary session in Strasbourg this week.
The budget allocated to Horizon 2020 in 2015 is 9.61 billion EUR for commitments and 9.02 billion EUR for payments, which is an increase of 45 million EUR on the European Commission’s draft 2015 budget. This increased budget will be used to meet outstanding payments from FP7/H2020 projects.
Negotiators from the European Parliament and the Council of the EU reached a provisional agreement on the 2015 budget on 8 December and the full Parliament’s approval means that the Commission can now start to cover unpaid bills for 2014. Overall the EU’s 2015 budget is 145.32 billion EUR for commitments and 141.21 billion EUR in payments and an extra 4.25 billion EUR for unpaid bills in 2014.
