The Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) and the Engineering and Physical Research Council (EPSRC) welcome proposals to support the goal of the decarbonisation of heating and/or cooling. Proposals must be at least 50% within the remit of EPSRC or at least 50% within the remit of NERC. Proposals are invited and encouraged to include research that spans the remit of both EPSRC and NERC, but this is not a requirement (and may not be appropriate to all topics within the heating and cooling challenge). However, proposals must be interdisciplinary in that ALL proposals must include an economic and/or social science component.
Proposals must be for a research grant.
The research proposed must clearly address decarbonising heating, decarbonising cooling or decarbonising both heating and cooling. Proposals that do not clearly address decarbonising heating, decarbonising cooling or decarbonising both heating and cooling as the main focus will be rejected as out of remit for the call.
It is expected that the funding available for this call is approximately £12 million. Proposals should be for a maximum of £1.5 million and for a minimum of £500K. Proposals should be for 36 to 48 months duration.
Proposals may come from consortia or individual institutions and may address individual or multiple themes.
Please Note an Intent to Submit must be submitted by 16:00 23 July 2020 in order to be able to submit a Full Proposal to this call.
Only Intent to Submits completed via the online form (available through the following link) will be accepted. Further information about the call and the associated call documents are also available on this link.
