In its capacity as the UK ERC National Contact Point, UKRO is holding an information event for researchers interested in applying for either the European Research Council 2019 Starting or Synergy Grants. The event will take place on Monday 17 September in partnership with Goldsmiths, University of London, where the event will take place.
Aim of the Session
The main part of the session will provide participants with a practical overview of the ERC funding programme, giving participants a deeper understanding of the proposal format for the Starting Grant call and the key issues they are required to address in planning, writing and costing a proposal. Most information is common to both Starter and Synergy grants, but specific details for the Starting Grant will be provided.
After the main session, there will be a presentation on the features unique to the Synergy Grant, explaining the evaluation procedure, how to approach an application and how Synergy Grants differs from the other types of ERC Frontier Grant.
Given the shortened call timescales resulting from a delay to the publication of the ERC work Programme, registered individuals are advised to review the official ERC communication about the anticipated changes.
Representatives from the Department for Business Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) will also be present to briefly outline the latest situation with regards to UK applicants’ eligibility for these schemes in the context of Article 50 negotiations.
Attendance will be free of charge, but registration is required. Places will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis but you are not obliged to attend both sessions.
Who should attend?
The sessions are aimed at researchers based in, or moving to, the UK who are planning to submit a proposal to either the 2019 ERC Starting Grant call or the 2019 Synergy Grant call. The 2019 Starting Grant call is expected to open mid-September and will close in October 2018. The Synergy Grant call is also due to open mid-September and will close mid-November 2018.
Applicants who plan to apply for the Starting Grant may only wish to attend the main session, while applicants wishing to apply for the Synergy Grant can choose to attend the full day (recommended if they have limited experience of applying for ERC grants) or just the additional Synergy session.
Please indicate your preference (full day / Starting Grant only / Synergy Grant only) in the Additional Information field of the registration form.
The event will start at 10.00 am (with registration from 9.30 am) and last until 1.00 pm. The Synergy-specific session will then start at 2.00 pm and last until 3.30 pm. A final, more detailed agenda for the session will be circulated a week in advance to those who have registered.
