Researchers are increasingly being asked to demonstrate the impact of their work, but what does this mean? Research Councils UK (RCUK) describes impact as “The demonstrable contribution that excellent research makes to society and the economy.”
They have produced a toolkit to help researchers understand more about their funding requirements as well as the different pathways towards economic and societal impacts
There is also a useful diagram which provides an indication of the potential range of impacts that can be generated from research. Download a PDF version of the diagram
